Our Founder

Our founder, Nan Civel, after having worked for ten years with Unilever Malaysia, decided to pursue her passion for Early Childhood Education. In 1983, inspired by a brilliant Italian Doctor, Maria Montessori, she embarked on a 3 year course of study and work programme in the Maria Montessori Training Organisation in England, United Kingdom. She subsequently gained many hours of teaching experience in 3 schools in London upon receiving her Diploma in Montessori Education. This gave her the confidence and motivation to open the first Montessori pre-school in Malaysia, introducing the complete Montessori method of education in 1986 at The children’s house in Damansara Heights.

As an educator with a deep respect for the unique, magical minds of children; Nan continues to be humbled and enthralled by the numerous contributions of talented, dedicated people around the world, who have shared precious scientific observations and focused research, enabling us to provide the resources and atmosphere for young learners to discover the joy of learning at their own pace in a harmonious environment.

Research has shown that a good predictor of future success is a positive source of self-esteem and the confidence to face challenges and change with optimism. As all our children deserve the very best, Nan subsequently established The Teacher’s House and developed a comprehensive in-house training to enable educators to successfully facilitate the optimal learning and development of the children under their care.

The children’s house has since opened 8 other schools in well-established residential areas in Kuala Lumpur and is highly regarded in Malaysia as a premium preschool. Over the past 27 years, the schools have maintained their quality standards and have served more than 10,000 children from well over 50 countries.
