Infant & Pre-toddlers

Our focus is on getting it right from the very start and we believe that starts at infancy. At The children’s house, we are firmly committed to providing a safe, secure, and stimulating environment for our infants aged 2 months onwards.

The award-winning curriculum was developed by Learning Vision Singapore, a member of the Busy Bees Southeast Asia family and has proved to be highly popular at our centre @ Tunas Kijang, The Central Bank of Malaysia’s Corporate Childcare Facility.

The infant and pre-toddler programme is holistic and focused on optimum periods for learning characteristics of early development in the first three years of life. Holistic development emphasises on the development of infants’ emerging physical, sensory-motor, perceptual, cognitive, language and social-emotional skills. The environment is designed to respect, support and respond to baby’s sensorial development.

Core curriculum

Infants and pretoddlers are like blank canvas who are waiting to be painted upon. It is essential to be careful while handling them because they are sensitive, vulnerable and waiting to be moulded.

The framework that determines the pedagogy and key practices of the infant and pre-toddler programme is guided by three distinctive features: Caregiving, Attachment and Play.

– Caregiving emphasis respectful, responsive and reciprocal interactions during routine caregiving.

– Play, children acquire cognitive abilities, language skills, improve their physical abilities and learn how to deal with various emotions. By developing their moral values and social skills, children also learn to become active participants in the social world.

– Attachment as a curriculum is demonstrated through a loving environment where trust and security are nurtured to encourage exploration and the development of self-identity and self-esteem.

Toddlers

If you have a toddler, you’ll notice how active and inquisitive they are, with a natural desire to touch and manipulate everything they see. Hence, to capture their natural curiosity and attention, we communicate through naming and listening games, storytelling, singing and rhyming. The toddlers’ desire to imitate results in their absorption of new words and their vocabulary soon expands to form sentences.

Trust is also built through loving care and participating in routine activities alongside their friends, such as putting away toys and personal belongings as well as observing positive meal-time behaviour. Gross motor skills and concentration span improve as the toddlers develop their abilities in spooning, pouring, sponging amongst others. Their natural desire to succeed in what they do is encouraged through repetitive activities until they can do everything themselves – creating a happy and motivated toddler!

Core curriculum
The toddler programme is designed to foster cognitive, speech and language development, strengthen fine motor skills, grace and courtesy and promote independence. Art and music are woven into each day with songs, dances and fine is art always available to each child. The Toddler’s program takes advantage of the childs’s natural drive to act independently. Montessori advances each child’s growth and development through a rich and well prepared environment designed just for them. The classrooms are a special place for the young child to begin his/her steps towards independence and self-reliance. We follow a student teacher ratio of 1:4 -1:5 to ensure personlised attention to each student. Teachers are the people they interact with most after parents, and we want to make these interactions count.
